From now on, as often as I feel like it, I am going to post “Daily Bloodshed” which is where I’ll post a video or sound bite of a song by a band I’m currently listening to, most likely a song I’ve deemed significant or just really kick-ass. At some point I’ll probably archive them for ease of access. For now though, here’s the dawn of “Daily Bloodshed”:
Nasum- Closer to the End
Today’s Bloodshed is brought to you by Swedish grinders, Nasum. If someone forced me to come up with my favorite grindcore band, there’s a strong chance it could be Nasum. Fast, furious, and extremely intense, this is a band that grinds the way it should be done, with political lyrics and the dirtiest guitar distortion this side of Entombed’s “The Left hand Path“.
Unfortunately, Mieszko Talarczyk the primary song writer, vocalist and guitar player was confirmed deceased as of February 17th, 2005 due to the tsunami that consumed Thailand. This gentleman was grind to the very core (see what I did there?), and really anything by Nasum is some of the greatest grind on the planet, they even went so far as to record a split with Swedish D-beat legends Skitsystem.
The track I went with is from their 2005 album Shift. Clocking in at 38:26, it was very difficult to choose among the 24 songs one that I felt best represented them. The song I narrowed it down to displays a little bit of their melodic qualities and how fast Nasum can be, but honestly you could pick any track off of Shift. The chord progression towards the end makes the whole song. Check them out and support the band.
R.I.P. Mieszko Talarczyk
